Wow, what an incredible launch! I want to say a huge thank you for all the shares and support for the UCM Leadership Toolbox. The response has been amazing and really highlights the need for practical leadership tools that make life easier for leaders.
However, with such amazing support, we’ve hit a couple of challenges. First, managing all the"PLS ADD ME" requests is not sustainable at the current rate and keeping up would require additional resources. The solution? When I was starting out as a leader, I was always eager to prove I had all the answers, ready to jump in as soon as a challenge presented itself. What I didn’t realise at the time was how often that eagerness led me to miss the mark entirely—I wasn’t truly listening or understanding the question before responding.
Here’s my advice: listen carefully. Ask questions to make sure you fully grasp the issue or concern. Only once you genuinely understand should you start considering your response. And remember, as a leader, you don’t have to have all the answers, right away. It’s perfectly okay to say, "Let me consider that," or "I’ll get more detail and get back to you."
These responses are far better than winging it and providing feedback that is inaccurate or a commitment you are unable to deliver. “Listen to understand, not to respond.”
